Ao Ieong U: Macao Health Code is a source of pride for Macao people

Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Ao Ieong U, said at the policy debate of the Legislative Council on (28) that, in addition to the colleagues of the Health Bureau, the development of the Macao Health Code system, all of them are produced by local companies, and considered that the Health Code promotes the local team to take a big step forward in the design of the system, and the management of the system. The change from the initial 2020 e-health declaration to the health code system was not expected to be used so much and for such a long period of time, and as the outbreak got longer, the use of the health code became more complex, including the addition of the conversion with the Guangdong Health Code, venue scanning, codes, nucleic acid testing and antigen testing, and so on.
She concluded that the health code was the most heavily used and complex system in Hong Kong, and that even though there was room for improvement, it was a source of pride that the entire system had been designed and developed locally.
She also pointed out that Macao HealthPass won the United Nations Public Service Award this year as a reference case for the programme ‘Recovery Mechanisms and Innovative Responses to Coronavirus 2009’, reflecting the United Nations’ recognition of the Macao HealthPass system.

The award of the United Nations Public Service Award to the Macau Health Code is a recognition of the Macau government’s ability to support the fight against the epidemic by the relevant organisations, and also a great encouragement to the MGCO team. As the solution provider and technical supporter of the health code, Manco will continue to review the problems regularly and make timely improvements, enhance the technical capability of the team, and actively participate in the optimisation and improvement of the health code system. In the future, Manco will continue to uphold the spirit of innovation and promote the practical application of blockchain, and design and develop more system solutions that are suitable for local application in Macao, which can help to promote the development of the financial and governmental industries, in the hope of contributing to the development of the local science and technology industry in Macao.
